About Bob Smith

I graduated from Chippewa Valley High School, Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration, and earned my Juris Doctorate cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
My family has a history of service and loyalty to the residents of Macomb County. My father, Bob Smith Senior, was the longest-serving police chief in Macomb County when he retired from the Clinton Township Police Department. My mother, Stella (Spada), worked 42 years at Chippewa Valley schools as an accountant/bookkeeper.
In 2011, I retired as Fire Marshal from the Clinton Township Fire Dept after 25 years. In 2009, I was elected to serve as one of 26 members of the inaugural Macomb County Charter Commission. This commission wrote the new County Charter that has guided Macomb County through the transition from a Commissioner managed county to an Executive managed county. Continuing the work of the Charter Commission, in 2011 I ran for and was elected to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners for District 12. In my 10 years of service on the board, including four years as Board Chairman, I held several roles, including Macomb County’s representative on the board of the Area Agency on Aging 1b (AAA1b).
On a more personal note, my wife Felisha and I are lifelong Macomb county residents currently residing in Macomb Township. We are the proud parents of our two sons and St. Mary Catholic School students, Troy and Devon, and my stepdaughter Sierra.
